enCore says South Dakota uranium project approved for fast-track permitting
Nasdaq- and TSX-V-listed enCore Energy on Tuesday announced that its Dewey Burdock uranium project in South Dakota had secured Fast-41 approval, marking the first critical minerals project in the state to be added to the federal fast-track permitting system.
Executive chairperson William Sheriff said enCore was honoured to see Dewey Burdock selected as a Fast-41 project. "We look forward to working with the permitting council and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to advance the project in an open and transparent process."
"Dewey Burdock plays an important role in supporting the US nuclear fuel supply chain with domestically produced uranium for many years into the future," said Sheriff.
The Dewey Burdock project, wholly owned by enCore, is an advanced-stage uranium development in Custer and Fall River counties. Using in-situ recovery technology, uranium is extracted from subsurface sandstone ore bodies through a water-based solution, minimising surface disturbance compared with conventional openpit or underground mining. The project comprises wellfield areas, a central processing plant, supporting infrastructure, and environmental protection systems.
enCore received its Source and Byproduct Materials Licence from the NRC in 2014 and controls both mineral and surface rights across the licensed 4 281 ha site. With Fast-41 inclusion, the company aims to expedite permitting and advance the project toward development and operation.
The US Fast-41 programme, established under Title 41 of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act, is designed to accelerate permitting for priority infrastructure and critical mineral projects, providing clear timetables and enhanced coordination among federal agencies.
